Rose came to Pomona after also being accepted to Haverford,Middlebury, Barnard and Rice. "I love that running requirestwo extremes of discipline," says Haag. "To race well you have tolay it all out and give everything you've got. To train well youhave to just put on your shoes and go for a run again and again andagain. For me, becoming good at both these things is reallyabout learning to conquer my mind..."
Rose loves the Pomona-Pitzer program because it "gives us somuch freedom to figure out how to train, how to fit running intoour lives, and how to motivate ourselves. I think we eachdevelop internal motivation and discipline. The demands come fromourselves, not from any external pressure, which means that themental conquest that inevitably happens is pretty easily applied toall aspects of our lives."
