Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team defeated the George Fox Bruins 24-7 in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament at the South Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Sagehens attack was led by Maggie Sweeney and Fiona Lewis as the duo both recorded four goals and one assist while Sydney Landauer recorded three goals and four assists. Shoshi Henderson also showed well for the Sagehens on attack, dishing out four assists with one goal on the day. The Sagehens will travel to Gambier, OH for the Sweet Sixteen to take on Kenyon College next weekend.
The first quarter of the game saw Pomona-Pitzer quickly take control, with Maggie Sweeney scoring the first goal of the game. Fiona Lewis followed soon after to put Pomona-Pitzer up 2-0. George Fox cut the lead to 2-1 after a goal with 10:51 to play in the first but Pomona-Pitzer continued their domination with three more goals from Lewis, Ellie Kruse, and Shoshi Henderson. George Fox managed to two more goals in the quarter, but Pomona-Pitzer had the advantage as Landauer, Gwynn Sullivan, Sweeney, and Grace Warner all score to put Pomona-Pitzer up 9-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The Sagehens continued their attack in the second quarter, scoring six unanswered goals from Ella Bradley, Maggie Sweeney, Ellie Kruse, Sydney Landauer, Caroline Welch, and Fiona Lewis to take a 15-3 lead going into halftime. Out of the halftime break, Lewis scored again but the Bruins countered with a goal of their own to make it 16-4. The Sagehens scored the next four off the sticks of Sweeney, Eloise Cherian, Warner, and Landauer, extending their lead to 20-4. The Bruins didn't go down without a fight in the fourth quarter, scoring three goals down the stretch but Pomona-Pitzer continued to find the back of the net as Caroline Welch, Ellie Kruse, River Buechner, and Regan Schunk put on the finishing touches of the Sagehens 24-7 victory.
