Lacrosse Falls to Trinity in NCAA Round of 16

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Pomona-Pitzer women's lacrosse fell 14-9 in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 Saturday to Trinity College (Conn.). 
 
The result brings the Sagehens' final season mark to 17-2 overall and marks the second straight season Pomona-Pitzer reached the Round of 16 before falling. 
 
Taylor Glanville and Caili Cross led the Sagehens against the Bantams with two goals apiece, with Cross adding an assist. Gwynn Sullivan, Madeleine Trapp, Maihue Miranda Wiltberger, Carly Katzman and River Buechner each added a score, with Trapp dishing out two assists. Ruby Loesch tallied three saves in goal during the second half. 
 
Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to an early 2-0 lead following goals from Glanville and Katzman. But Trinity roared back, scoring six unanswered to close out the first quarter and adding another at the start of the second to take a 7-2 advantage. Cross then scored her first off an assist from Trapp. But the Bantams scored three more to take a 10-3 lead into halftime. 
 
Sullivan scored unassisted to open the scoring in the third quarter. Trinity then scored another before Miranda Wiltberger found the back of the net. The Bantams scored once more before the close of the third quarter to hold a 12-5 advantage. 
 
Trapp and Buechner traded goals to start the fourth. Trinity added one more before Glanville and Cross each found the back of the net in the closing minutes. But it wasn't quite enough, as Pomona-Pitzer went on to fall 14-9.
