Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca.- The Pomona-Pitzer softball team defeated Cal Lutheran 2-1 on Friday afternoon with Devin Waddell's two-run homerun being the difference maker for the Sagehens. Pomona-Pitzer is now 14-10 on the season and 5-2 in conference with a road doubleheader against the Regals scheduled for tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The Sagehens and Regals went scoreless through the first two before Cal Lutheran managed to score the first run of the game in the top of the third with an RBI single to right center to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third inning, Kylie Liu got the hitting started with a single to right field. Amanda Robman advanced Liu to second with a sacrifice bunt, bringing Devin Waddell to the plate. Waddell delivered a two-run homer over the right center field wall to put the Sagehens up 2-1. Cal Lutheran made a late comeback attempt in the top of the seventh, starting the inning with a hit by pitch followed by a single to left field, putting runners on first and second. Devin Waddell earned a strikeout and forced a ground out to third base to end the game 2-1 in favor of the Sagehens. Waddell pitched a full seven innings, allowing just four hits and one run with four strikeouts.
