CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens fell to #5 Redlands in extra innings with a final score of a 5-7.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens record is now to 17-21 overall and 10–9 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens produced five runs on nine hits in the contest. Kylie Liu led the offense with a standout performance, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs while scoring twice. Natalie Murguia set the tone at the top of the lineup, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored. Gianna Phillips added a two-RBI effort with a double, while Sadie Huryn reached base twice and crossed the plate once. Marie Milton also contributed with a double and a run scored. In the circle, Pomona-Pitzer used a two-pitcher effort. Audrey Reimers got the start, throwing 3.0 innings while allowing four runs on six hits with two walks. Nyla Springer entered in relief and took the loss, tossing 5.0 innings and giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out one.
The Sagehens struck first in the opening inning, as Liu launched a solo home run to give the Sagehens an early 1–0 lead. The advantage grew in the third, when the Sagehens put together a big offensive inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Liu and a two-run double from Phillips to extend the lead to 5–0. Redlands responded in the fourth inning with a strong rally, stringing together five hits to plate four runs and cut the deficit to 5–4. The Bulldogs continued to chip away in the fifth, using an RBI single to even the score at 5–5. From there, both teams were held in check through the next two innings as the game remained deadlocked. In extra innings, Redlands broke through in the eighth, capitalizing on timely hitting with a two-RBI single to take a 7–5 lead. The Sagehens were unable to answer in the bottom half, as Redlands secured the win. Facing the No. 5 team in the nation, the Sagehens battled throughout against a Redlands squad that extended its winning streak to 23 games, the longest in program history.
