Softball Splits A Pair With La Verne On Senior Day

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Sagehens split the double header vs. La Verne, winning 10–2 in game one and falling 5-9 in game two.

Season Impact: With the split, the Sagehens record is now to 17–19 overall and 10–7 in SCIAC play.

Game One
Sagehens 10, La Verne 2 (6 inn.)

The Sagehens produced ten runs on 16 hits in a dominant offensive performance. Natalie Murguia led the way with a 4-for-5 outing, driving in two runs and adding a triple, while Kylie Liu contributed two RBIs and reached base twice. Sadie Huryn added a multi-hit performance with an RBI, and Claire Sefkow chipped in with two hits and a run driven in. Gianna Phillips and Audrey Reimers each recorded two hits and an RBI, with Reimers also scoring twice. Marie Milton added two hits and an RBI of her own, while Yuri Song reached base twice and scored a pair of runs. In the circle, Nyla Springer delivered a strong outing, earning the complete-game victory. She allowed just two runs on four hits over six innings, while striking out one and issuing no walks.

The Sagehens broke through in the second inning, capitalizing on three hits as Liu delivered a two-RBI double to give the Sagehens an early 2–0 lead. La Verne answered in the fourth, stringing together three hits to plate two runs and even the score at 2–2. The Sagehens responded immediately in the bottom half, using four hits to regain control. Phillips drove in a run with an RBI single, Reimers followed with an RBI walk, and Milton added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 5–2. Pomona-Pitzer continued to build momentum in the fifth, as Murguia tripled home a run to extend the advantage.

In the sixth, the Sagehens broke the game open, taking advantage of defensive miscues and timely hitting to score four runs. Huryn drew an RBI walk, while Murguia and Sefkow each added RBI singles to cap the rally and stretch the lead to 10–2. From there, Pomona-Pitzer held firm defensively to secure the 10–2 victory in six innings.

Sagehens 5, La Verne 9

The Sagehens produced five runs on seven hits. Kylie Liu led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, including a pair of doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored. Natalie Murguia added a strong showing with two hits and three RBIs, while Audrey Reimers reached base twice and scored a pair of runs. Sadie Huryn also contributed by drawing two walks and scoring a run, and Claire Sefkow chipped in with an RBI via a sacrifice fly. In the circle, Pomona-Pitzer used a three-pitcher effort in the contest. Mia Lopez took the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits over 3.1 innings while adding a strikeout. Nyla Springer followed in relief, giving up two runs on four hits across 2.1 innings. Audrey Reimers closed out the game, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and issuing one walk.

Pomona-Pitzer jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, as Murguia delivered a two-RBI single to put the Sagehens up 2–0. La Verne responded in the second with a solo home run and an RBI single to even the score at 2–2. The Sagehens regained the lead in the third inning behind another RBI knock from Murguia, making it 3–2. La Verne answered with a decisive fourth inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hitting to plate five runs and take control of the game with a 7–3 advantage. Pomona-Pitzer chipped away in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Sefkow to cut the deficit to 7–4, but La Verne added two more runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 9–4. The Sagehens threatened late, scoring once in the seventh on an RBI double from Liu, but were unable to complete the comeback, ultimately falling 9–5.
