Sagehens Finish Unbeaten In SCIAC Play With 24-2 Win Over Cal Lutheran

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team finished off their regular season with a 24-2 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday night at the South Athletics Complex.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens finish the regular season 17-1 overall and a perfect 12-0 in SCIAC play.

Eloise Cherian led the Sagehens with the only hat-trick of the night with three goals in the win. Maggie Sweeney, Sydney Landauer, Grace Warner, Ellie Kruse, Claire LeBlanc, River Buechner, and Kiran Dickey all netted multiple goals as well with two while Gwynn Sullivan, Steffi Larson, Emma Clark, Carly Sullivan, Tess McHugh, Caroline Worthington, and Regan Schunk all had one.

Before the game, the Sagehens honored its eight seniors: Eloise Cherian, Maggie Sweeney, Steffi Larson, Grace Warner, Ellie Kruse, Caroline Worthington, Claire LeBlanc, and Kiran Dickey, who all played in their last regular season home contest this year.

Pomona-Pitzer went on to score the first nine goals of the game against the Regals as Cherian, LeBlanc, Sweeney, Worthington, Kruse, Larson, and Warner all netted early goals to take a 9-9 lead with six minutes still to play in the first. The Regals got their first goal of the game shortly after, but the Sagehens ended the first as Cherian and Sullivan found the back of the net to take an 11-1 lead into the second.

The Sagehen defense shut out Cal Lutheran in the second quarter while the offense continued to build the lead with six more goals. Dickey scored her first goal of the season to open the second while Kruse, Schunk, and then Dickey again made it 15-1.  LeBlanc and Clark added late goals in the first half as the Sagehens took a 17-1 lead into halftime.

Only four goals from the Sagehens in the third but Landauer, Sullivan, and Warner added to the lead to put the Sagehens up 20 at 21-1.  Pomona-Pitzer tacked on three more in the fourth from Buechner and McHugh as the Sagehens finished off their conference schedule unbeaten for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
