LA VERNE, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's track and field team is currently leading the way after Day One of the 2023 SCIAC Track and Field Championships with 58 team points after sweeping the 3k steeplechase and earning the gold medal in the 10k.
Day One Results
The Sagehens earned the top qualifier in the 1500m with Ian Horsburgh running 3:59.73 with Jack Rosencrans (4:05.21), Nathaniel Getachew (4:00.78), and Bennett Booth-Genthe (4:06.28) all earning automatic qualifiers with Alex Maxwell also getting into the final with a 4:03.10. Jake Hallesy made his way into the Day Two 400m final with a time of 50.33 seconds. Chris Taylor continued his successful season, dropping a 10.71 second 100m into a -1.2 m/s headwind, the second fastest time in program history, to earn his spot in the Sunday finals. Taylor also earned a spot in the 200m finals with a time of 22.00 seconds. The Sagehens earned four finalist in the 800m with Oscar Roering leading the charge with the top time of 1:51.71 while Jack Rosencrans (1:53.85), Bennett Booth-Genthe (1:54.22), and Lucas Cunningham (1:53.90) also performed well in the prelim.
The 3,000m steeplechase was the highlight for the Sagehens with Colin Kirkpatrick (8:57.12), Cameron Hatler (8:57.50), and Nathaniel Getachew (9:13.63) sweeping the podium with Jack Stein and Adam Dieck taking sixth and eighth in 9:31.94 and 9:39.95. The Sagehens also performed well in the 10k, taking first and second with Derek Fearon winning in 10:37.31 while Lucas Florsheim took second in 30:44.83. Cameron Hatler and Jack Stein took seventh and eighth in 31:58.22 and 32:07.00. Kirby Lam took third in the long jump with a mark of 6.84m. In the javelin, William Marquart took sixth place in the javelin with a throw of 45.21m.
