Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team picked up their eighth-straight victory with a dominant 22-14 win over Sixth Street Rival CMS. The Sagehens are now 14-1 on the season and 11-0 in the conference. Pomona-Pitzer was led by Caroline Worthington and Sydney Landauer with Worthington recording four goals while Landauer ended the day with two goals and six assists. Eloise Cherian, Gwynn Sullivan, and Maggie Sweeny all recorded hat tricks for the Sagehens as well. Pomona-Pitzer earned the advantage in draw controls with 22 to CMS' while going nearly perfect in clears with 21 of 22 clears completed successfully. Despite only taking three free position shots to CMS' 11, the Sagehens earned a 38-30 advantage in shots on the day en route to the 22-14 win.
The Sagehens struck first with an unassisted goal from Caroline Worthington just under a minute into the contest, but the Athenas fired back with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead. Pomona-Pitzer was able to counter with four unanswered goals of their own as Fiona Lewis, Eloise Cherian, and Caroline Worthington all found the back of the net to put Pomona-Pitzer up 5-3. CMS nearly equalized the score to end the first quarter, but the Sagehens recorded a buzzer beater off the stick of Grace Warner to go into the second quarter up 6-5.
The Athenas regained the lead at 7-6 after two goals to start the second but Worthington, Maggie Sweeney, and River Buechner all found the net to put Pomona-Pitzer up 9-7. CMS added on more goal before the halftime break with the Sagehens leading 9-8.
Pomona-Pitzer picked up steam in the third quarter, outscoring CMS 9-2 in the quarter. The Athenas managed to strike first after the break but from there it was all Pomona-Pitzer as Cherian, Landauer, G. Sullivan, Sweeney, and Warner all scored before CMS found their second goal of the third quarter. Taylor Glanville scored back-to-back goals before G. Sullivan scored again with 29 seconds left in the quarter, giving the Sagehens a convincing 18-10 lead.
The Sagehens didn't slow down at the start of fourth quarter as Sydney Landauer, Caroline Worthington, Eloise Cherian, and Gwynn Sullivan all scored a goal to boost the Sagehen lead to 22-10. The Athenas answered back with four late goals, but they weren't enough as the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens second half outburst was too much to overcome.
