Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team earned another dominate victory on Wednesday, defeating the Whittier Poets 22-4. With the win, the Sagehens are now 12-1 on the season and 9-0 in the conference with a game against Chapman slated for Saturday Apr. 15 at 7:00 p.m. Maggie Sweeney and Fiona Lewis both recorded four goals on the night with Caroline Worthington recording three goals and two assists.
The Sagehens wasted little time getting on the board as Shoshi Henderson found Grace Warner who scored the first goal of the game 45 seconds into the contest. Caroline Worthington scored next for Pomona-Pitzer just 18 seconds later with Sydney Landauer earning the assist on the play. The Sagehens continued to strike the back of the Poets net as Worthington, Landauer, Gwynn Sullivan, Maggie Sweeny, and Fiona Lewis all scored to put the Sagehens up 12-1 at the end of the first quarter. The Poets were able to score the first goal of the second quarter, but Pomona-Pitzer quickly went back on attack with back-to-back goals from Tess McHugh followed by a goal from Ella Bradley to put the Sagehens on top 15-2 heading into halftime.
Out of the break, Fiona Lewis and Taylor Glanville both recorded goals to increase the Sagehen lead to 17-2 before the Poets scored their third goal of the game with 8:11 remaining in the third. With 5:04 left in the third, Caroline Worthington found Maggie Sweeney who recorded her fourth goal of the game to push the lead to 18-3. The Poets were able to tack on another run in the third, but River Buechner scored off a free position shot to regain the 15-goal lead at 19-4 with 2:12 remaining in the third quarter. The Sagehens earned their 20th goal of the game off the stick of Steffi Larson with 20 seconds left in the quarter, putting Pomona-Pitzer up 20-4 heading into the fourth quarter. Steffi Larson and River Buechner scored the last two goals for the Sagehens to cap off the 22-4 victory over the Poets.
