Box Score REDLANDS, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team earned an extra innings 6-3 victory of the Redlands Bulldogs on Friday afternoon. Lauren Ziment led the team at the plate going 2-4 on the day, including a crucial two-RBI single in the eighth inning to put the Sagehens on top. The Sagehens will be back in action tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. when they host the Bulldogs in a doubleheader.
The Bulldogs recorded two hits and left three runners stranded in the first inning but both teams went scoreless through the first two innings. Redlands struck first with an RBI double to right field in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead over the Sagehens. The Sagehens responded in the top of the fifth inning with Lauren Ziment getting things started with a single to the pitcher. Ziment advanced to second with a sacrifice bunt by Bella Carreon and later moved to third with a single from Addie Wasikonis. Wasikonis stole second, putting runners on second and third with Camille Creighton stepping up to the plate. Creighton delivered a two-RBI double off the wall in left center to take a 2-1 lead over the Bulldogs.
Redlands answered quickly with a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at 2-2. The Bulldogs were able to tack on another run with an RBI single to center field, regaining the lead at 3-2. Pomona-Pitzer started the top of the sixth with a single to right from Amanda Robman. Robman later scored after an RBI double from Devin Waddell, tying the game at 3-3. Both teams went scoreless in the seventh inning, sending the game to extra innings.
In the top of the eighth inning, Kylie Liu threaded a line drive down the right field line, earning a triple to start the frame for the Sagehens. The Sagehens recorded a groundout on the following play, keeping Liu at third. The Bulldogs wanted nothing to do with Devin Waddell, so they dished out an intentional walk, putting runners on first and third with one out. Emily Hurtado was the next batter for the Sagehens and was hit by the pitch on a 2-2 count, loading the bases for Lauren Ziment with one out and the game tied 3-3. Ziment delivered immediately, drilling a two-RBI single up the middle, putting the Sagehens on top 5-3. After Ziment's hit, the Bulldogs made a pitching change but remained in trouble as they loaded the bases again after walking Bella Carreon. A wild pitch brought in Emily Hurtado, increasing the Sagehen lead to 6-3. The inning ended after a fly out to center followed by a close play at the plate, sending the Bulldogs into the bottom of the eighth inning trailing 6-3.
Erika Rivera forced an infield popup and two fly outs to end the game in the eighth inning, ending the Bulldogs' four-game winning streak as the Sagehens improved to 3-1 in SCIAC play with the 6-3 victory over Redlands.
