Box Score WHITTIER, Ca. - The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens women's lacrosse team had a dominating victory over the Whittier Poets, winning 23-5 in a day that was filled with rain and snow in a rare Southern California storm. The Sagehens started the game strong, with Caroline Welch scoring an unassisted goal just three minutes into the game. Shoshi Henderson quickly followed up with a goal assisted by Sydney Landauer, putting the Sagehens up 2-0. Landauer then scored her own goal, assisted by Grace Warner, making the score 3-0.
Whittier managed to get on the board with a goal by Samantha Nimmo, but the Sagehens continued to score at will. Ellie Kruse scored back-to-back goals, the first assisted by Landauer and the second by Henderson, extending the Sagehens' lead to 5-1. Henderson then scored another goal, assisted by Landauer, and Landauer followed up with a goal of her own, assisted by Henderson, bringing the score to 7-1.
In the second quarter, the Sagehens continued to dominate. Maggie Sweeney scored a goal, assisted by Landauer, and Fiona Lewis scored an unassisted goal, extending their lead to 9-1. Whittier managed to score a goal on a free position shot by Molly Landon, but the Sagehens responded with goals by River Buechner and Taylor Glanville, making the score 11-2. Eloise Cherian then scored a goal, assisted by Kruse, and Whittier managed to score a goal by Nimmo, assisted by Loren Jade Sepulveda, before Landauer scored another goal, assisted by Cherian, bringing the score to 13-3.
The Sagehens continued their control in the third quarter, with Lewis scoring an unassisted goal and Sweeney scoring a goal assisted by Caroline Worthington. Kruse and Lewis also added goals, assisted by Hannah Gough and Glanville respectively. Ella Bradley scored an unassisted goal, making the score 18-3, before Landauer scored her fourth goal of the game, unassisted, making the score 19-3.
In the final quarter, the Sagehens continued to score at will, with goals by Gough and Tess McHugh, the latter on a free position shot. Whittier managed to score two goals of their own, one on a free position shot by Georgia Bachiochi and the other by Davidson, assisted by Sepulveda, but the Sagehens responded with a goal by Buechner, assisted by McHugh, and a final goal by Glanville, making the score 23-5.
The Sagehens' offense was firing on all cylinders, with Landauer leading the way with four goals and four assists, and Kruse and Lewis contributing three goals each. The defense was also strong, limiting Whittier to just five goals. The Sagehens will look to carry this momentum into their next game, where they will face off against the Chapman Panthers on March 1 at 7:00 p.m. on the road.
