Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team blanked SCIAC opponent Occidental 22-0 on a cold Wednesday night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Fiona Lewis who scored a game-high five goals in the win. Grace Warner ended with four while Sydney Landauer also netted a hat-trick with three. Maggie Sweeney netted two while Hannah Gough, Steffi Larson, Taylor Glanville, Carly Sullivan, Shoshi Henderson, Ella Bradley, Ellie Kruse, and River Buechner had one.
The game started with Pomona-Pitzer taking control of possession and scoring the first goal just over a minute into the game. Warner scored the goal with an assist from Landauer. From there, the Sagehens continued to dominate, scoring 10 more goals in the first half.
Sweeney scored the second goal on a free position shot, and Lewis followed with an unassisted goal. Landauer then scored with an assist from Lewis, and Henderson scored an unassisted goal. Glanville scored with an assist from Landauer, and Lewis scored again with another assist from Landauer. Landauer then scored an unassisted goal, and Lewis scored her second goal with Warner's assistance. Sweeney also scored her second goal with an assist from Lewis, and Lewis closed out the first half scoring with an unassisted goal.
Pomona-Pitzer continued to dominate in the second half, with Landauer scoring her second goal of the game on an unassisted shot. Buechner followed with a goal on a free-position shot, and Lewis scored her third goal with an assist from Landauer. Kruse then scored with an assist from Buechner, and Bradley scored with an assist from Buechner. Gough closed out the third quarter by scoring with an unassisted goal.
Warner continued to be a force in the fourth quarter, scoring three more goals. She scored the first on an assist from Cherian, and the next two on assists from Henderson. Sullivan also scored on a free position shot, and Larson scored the game's final goal on an unassisted shot.
Pomona-Pitzer's defense was equally impressive, holding Occidental scoreless and allowing only four shots on goal. The Sagehens outshot the Tigers 47-9 and controlled possession for much of the game.
