CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens won game one of the doubleheader with a walk off walk in the tenth inning. Kylie Liu led the team on offense going 2-4 at the plate with a solo homerun. Devin Waddell pitched all 10 innings, allowing just four hits and one run. The Sagehens dropped game two 4-2 in another extra innings tight battle. Emily Hurtado hit her first career home run in the outing as the Sagehens split with the Pirates on the day.

Pomona-Pitzer 2, Whitworth 1 (10 Innings)

The Pirates recorded the first hit of the game in the first inning with a single to right field but that was their only hit until the fourth inning. The Sagehens saw a hit from Kylie Liu with a double to right in the bottom of the second but neither team could score on the early opportunities. The Sagehens had their best opportunity to score in the third inning with Amanda Robman starting the action with a single to center. Lauren Ziment reached first by way of error with Robman getting tagged out on the play. Devin Waddell and Claire Sefkow both hit singles to load the bases, but Liu later grounded into a double play to end the inning. Both teams continued their scoreless streak through the top of the sixth inning, but the Sagehens struck first in the bottom of the sixth. Kylie Liu stepped up to the plate and hit a solo home run over the right field wall to give Pomona-Pitzer the 1-0 lead. The Pirates responded in the top of the seventh inning, scoring with an RBI double to left field to tie the game at 1-1. Whitworth was still in striking distance with a runner on second when they hit a small blooper over the pitcher's circle, but Devin Waddell made an overhead diving catch the end the inning. 

Pomona-Pitzer went down in order in the bottom of the seventh, sending game one to extra innings. The first hit of extra innings came off the bat of the Pirates in the top of the ninth with a single to right field but both teams remained scoreless heading into the tenth inning. The Sagehens got a single from Lauren Ziment to start the bottom of the tenth. Ziment made her way to second with a sacrifice bunt by Claire Sefkow before Kylie Liu and Emily Hurtado both walked. Natalie Murguia came to the plate with bases loaded and was patient as the Pirates pitched a four-pitch walk, bringing home Ziment to give the Sagehens the 2-1 victory. 

Pomona-Pitzer. 2, Whitworth 4

The two teams went scoreless through the second inning, but the Pirates got things started with a home run in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Sagehens responded promptly with Emily Hurtado drilling her first career home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 1-1. That score would hold the whole way through regulation, sending the game back to extra innings tied 1-1, much like game one. In the top of the eighth inning, Whitworth scored three times with a Sagehen error followed by two RBI singles, giving the Pirates a late 4-1 lead. The Sagehens tried to mount the comeback in the bottom of the eighth with Natalie Murguia scoring to cut the lead to 4-2 but a ground out to second base ended the game 4-2 in favor of the Pirates.
