Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team dropped game one of the doubleheader 6-1 to the No. 12 Linfield Wildcats. Emily Hurtado led the team going for three for three at the plate, but the lone run belonged to Claire Sefkow after she hit her first career home run in the sixth inning. Devin Waddell pitched a full seven innings for the Sagehens in game one recording seven strikeouts.
Pomona-Pitzer 1, Linfield 6
Devin Waddell struck out the first batter of the game, but the Linfield Wildcats struck first after scoring on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead. Waddell was able to hit a single to left field in the bottom of the first but was left stranded. Pomona-Pitzer saw a solid scoring opportunity in the bottom of the second after Kylie Liu and Emily Hurtado both hit singles, but the Sagehens went down in order from there, stranding both Liu and Hurtado.
Linfield doubled their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning with an RBI double to left field. The Sagehens were able to work out of the inning as Waddell forced a pop up to second and a ground out to third base. Emily Hurtado recorded the team's next hit with an infield single in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Sagehens couldn't find a way to bring her across the plate. The Wildcats struck again in the top of the sixth with a solo homerun to left field to take a 3-0 lead before adding another run with an RBI single to left field. The Sagehens were able to cut the lead to three runs after Claire Sefkow hit her first career hit in style with a solo home run straight over the center field wall. Linfield was able to score two more runs after an RBI ground out to second followed by an RBI fly out to first base, giving the Wildcats a 6-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Sagehens went down in order in the bottom of the seventh, giving Linfield the 6-1 win in game one of the doubleheader.
Pomona-Pitzer 4, Linfield 7
The Sagehens were the first to score in game two after Devin Waddell ripped a double to left field, bringing in Amanda Robman for an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Wildcats responded promptly in the second inning with an RBI single to center, tying the game at 1-1. The Sagehens and Wildcats went scoreless through the fourth inning, but Pomona-Pitzer held a 4-0 advantage in hits in that stretch as Kylie Liu, Shelby Hawkes, and Lauren Ziment all recorded hits. Linfield did some damage in the top of the fifth with three hits and three runs, taking a 4-1 lead over Pomona-Pitzer. The Sagehens were quick to respond in the bottom of the fifth inning as Amanda Robman and Lauren Ziment both reached on errors before Claire Sefkow hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2. Natalie Murguia hit a two-RBI single to left field later in the inning, tying the game at 4-4 heading into the sixth inning.
Linfield broke the game open in the top of the sixth, starting the inning off with two singles followed by an RBI single to left and RBI double to right center, regaining the lead at 6-4. The Wildcats reached on a fielder's choice ball with the Sagehens attempting a play at home, but Linfield was safe at the plate, extending the lead again to 7-4. Linfield continued to rally, hitting a two-RBI single to center and RBI single to left field, extending their lead to 10-4 before the Sagehens could record the final out of the inning with a fly out to right field. The Wildcats added one more run in the top of the seventh to make it an 11-4 game which would hold through the final half as the Sagehens left one on base, falling to the Wildcats 11-4.
