The Sagehens were the first to record a run after a Devin Waddell single brought Amanda Robman home for the 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Bruins put the pressure on in the second and third innings. In the second inning, George Fox singled to start the attack before getting hit by two pitches to load the bases. A three-RBI double to the left field wall but the Bruins up 3-1. In the third inning, George Fox added two more runs with a solo homerun and RBI single to extend their lead to 5-1. The Sagehens began their comeback attempt in the bottom of the third inning with a deep shot to center field that bounced off the top of the fence from Kylie Liu that brought in Amanda Robman. Liu was ruled out on the play at second base in the midst of a home run trot as her hit was ruled in play by the umpires with George Fox tagging her out at second. The Sagehens cut the lead to 5-3 in the fifth with an RBI single from Lauren Ziment.

In their final chance at a comeback win, the Sagehens pulled within one at 5-4 with a single to left field from Emily Hurtado that brought in Devin Waddell. The Sagehens nearly found the equalizer after Addie Wasikonis reached on a fielder's choice with Kylie Liu getting tagged out at the plate. The Sagehens then nearly struck the equalizer once more with Natalie Murguia hitting a single over the third basemen, but she was called out for being out of the batter's box during contact. The Sagehens unlucky streak continued after a foul ball was caught up against the fence to end the game 5-4 in favor of the Bruins.
