Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer volleyball team went 1-1 on the final day of the Pacific Coast Classic, falling to Babson 3-1 (26-24, 27-29, 25-12, 25-20) while defeating New England College 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-12). The Sagehens are now 2-2 on the season and will take on Puget Sound on Sept. 9th at 4:30 p.m.
Babson 3, Pomona-Pitzer 1
The Sagehens got off to a good start with a Chloe Gill kill before edging their way to an early 8-4 lead but the Beavers stormed back, taking a 13-12 lead to force a Sagehen timeout. Out of the break, the Sagehens saw a kill from Chloe Gill but Babson went on a 6-1 run to take a 19-14 lead, forcing another Pomona-Pitzer timeout. This time the break was effective as the Sagehens countered with a 7-4 run to cut the lead to 23-21 and force Babson to talk things over. Out of the timeout, the Beavers recorded an attack error which was followed by a Lauren Asato ace, tying the game at 23-23. Unfortunately, the Beavers outscored the Sagehens 3-1 at the end to take set one 26-24. 
Set two played much like the first as the Sagehens took another 8-4 lead before the Beavers knotted things up at 12-12. The game came to a tie on 11 more occasions as the two teams traded attacks relentlessly. The Sagehens saw kills from Grace Fan, Laurel Park, Paige Wilson, Chloe Gill, and Kellan Hayes in the fury of attacks to keep things close. With the game tied 27-27, Wilson recorded a service ace to take a 28-27 lead to force a Babson timeout. Out of the break the Sagehens took the set 29-27 thanks to a Babson attack error. 
The Beavers controlled set three from the early going, taking a quick 7-2 lead before extending it to 18-7 with a 5-0 run. The Beavers continued to utilize a heavy attack, outscoring the Sagehens 7-5 to take set three 25-12. Set four saw the Sagehens and Beavers go back and forth until Babson took an 11-7 lead. The Sagehens went on a quick 4-0 run with a kill from Paige Mountanos, Chloe Gill, along with a service ace from Paige Wilson to tie the game at 11-11 and force a Babson timeout. From there, the Beavers went on a 9-3 run to take a 20-14 lead and force a Sagehen timeout. The Beavers continued their run with a 3-1 stretch, extending the lead to 23-15 but the Sagehens earned the next four points to cut the lead 23-19. A Sagehen attack error and Babson kill gave the Beavers the 25-20 set victory and 3-1 win overall.

Paige Mountanos got things started with a kill against the Pilgrims, but the two teams briefly went back and forth before the Sagehens broke the game open with a stifling 17-3 run, taking a commanding 21-9 lead. Down the stretch, Grace Fan recorded two kills while Kellan Hayes recorded the final kill of the set to earn a 25-12 set win.
The Sagehens carried their momentum into set two as they started on a 17-7 run, powered by kills from Mountanos, Cameron Hodges, Ella Gardner, along with a service ace from Emily Bunnell. From there, the Sagehens ended the set on an 8-4 run, seeing kills from Tene Ariyo and Natalie Potter with Eleanor Nicholson ending the game with a service ace, taking the set 25-11.  
Pomona-Pitzer continued to tear through New England as they flew through the set, going on a 14-5 run before the Pilgrims called a timeout. Out of the break, the Sagehens continued to attack, going on a 7-3 lead to take a 21-8 lead. The end of the set was an even 4-4 but the Sagehens needed just four points to complete the sweep over the Pilgrims.
