CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball secured a four-set win over Occidental (25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 25-15) Tuesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: The win improves the Sagehens' season record to 10-13, including 5-8 in SCIAC play.
Paige Mountanos paced Pomona-Pitzer offensively with 19 kills on a .410 clip, adding 15 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
Tene Ariyo added 14 kills on a .393 clip while
Samantha Grabb had 10.
Ella Mesard notched six kills with 18 digs while
Savanna Cespedes dished out a team-high 17 assists.
Set one remained tied at 15-15 before a
Charlotte Sekerka kill put the Sagehens up two, 17-15. A Mesard kill later made it 22-17 before Cespedes sealed the 25-22 set win with a setter dump. After another Mesard kill brought set two to match point for the Sagehens, 24-22, Occidental scored the next two to force a win-by-two situation. Kills from Mountanos and Grabb then gave Pomona-Pitzer the 2-0 match lead.
The Tigers answered in the third, ending the game on an 8-4 run to take it, 25-21, and force a fourth set. But Pomona-Pitzer dominated the fourth from the get-go, with a block from Mountanos and Sekerka giving the Sagehens a 20-11 lead. Ariyo sealed the 3-1 match win with a kill as Pomona-Pitzer took the fourth, 25-15.
