Volleyball Falls in Three at CMS

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer women's volleyball fell in three sets (18-25, 19-25, 16-25) at CMS Friday evening in its final road match of the season.

Season Impact: The result puts the Sagehens at 10-15 on the season, including 5-10 in SCIAC play.

Paige Mountanos led Pomona-Pitzer with nine kills and six digs, while Tene Ariyo added six kills. Corrina Benson anchored the defense with 17 digs to go with four assists while Savanna Cespedes had 10 assists and 10 digs.

The Sagehens hung around in the opening set, as a kill from Samantha Grabb helped bring the team within three, 20-17. Mountanos added a kill late but CMS won the first set, 25-18. The Athenas controlled much of set two, but a Paige Butler service ace, Ariyo and CC Porter block and Mountanos kill sparked a 4-0 run late from the Sagehens. CMS, though, came away with the 25-19 set two win to take a 2-0 match lead.

Mountanos tallied a kill late in set three off a Sophie Mies assist before Mies set up Nayla Ward for a kill. But the Athenas went on to win set three, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.

Up Next: The Sagehens will cap the 2025 regular season with a senior day match against Cal Lutheran at home tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 8, at 4:00 p.m. PT.
