Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team dropped a pair of SCIAC contests to the Chapman Panthers on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 in game one and 3-0 in game two. Lauren Ziment led the Sagehens at the plate in game one with two hits. The Sagehens are now 13-18 overall and 5-7 in the conference. Pomona-Pitzer will host Whittier on Friday, Apr. 15th at 3:00 p.m.
Game One – Chapman 2, Pomona-Pitzer 1
Chapman nearly got on the board in the first inning, but Julia Carreon made a perfect throw from left field to home to end the inning and keep the Panthers off the board. The Sagehens quickly got to work in the bottom of the first as Lauren Ziment led off and hit a single to left to start the inning. Megan Otsuka moved Ziment over with a sacrifice bunt, but Ziment was caught stealing at third. Devin Waddell hit a double to left center, but a Taylor Lehner fly out ended the inning.
The Panthers struck in the top of the second inning with an RBI single and an RBI groundout to short stop, giving Chapman a 2-0 lead. Hannah Brajkovich hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning to cut the lead to 2-1. From there, the game went scoreless with the Sagehens leaving one runner on in the bottom of the seventh as the Panthers earned the 2-1 victory in game one.
Game Two – Chapman 3, Pomona-Pitzer 0
Game two was scoreless for three full innings with the Sagehens leaving one runner on in both the first and third inning while Chapman left one on in the third inning. The Panthers were able to record an RBI single in the fourth, an RBI double in the fifth and a solo home run in the seventh to put up three runs over Pomona-Pitzer. The Sagehens left runners on in the final three innings as they fell 3-0 the Chapman.
