Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 25 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team moved to 9-0 on the year after their 17-7 win over SCIAC opponent Chapman on Wednesday night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehen stay undefeated on the year at 9-0 and 6-0 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by Shoshi Henderson who tallied a game-high 5 goals in the win along with two assists. Fiona Lewis, Carly Sullivan and Eloise Cherian all netted two goals each while Maggie Sweeney, Claire LeBlanc, Sydney Landauer, Caroline Worthington, Tess McHugh and Regan Schunk all chipped in with one. Emily Vomvas earned the win in goal with seven saves.
Chapman stayed with Pomona-Pitzer early on in the game and took an early lead in the first with the first goal of the game until Henderson netted her first to tie it at 1-1. The Sagehens went on to take the lead as Cherian, Landauer and Sullivan found the back of the net to make it 4-1 before the Panthers ended the first with back-to-back goals to only trail the Sagehens by one at 4-3 heading into the second quarter.
The Sagehens opened the second quarter with two-straight goal from Worthington and Cherian, but Chapman answered with a goal to make it 6-4 midway through the second. The Sagehens ended the first half with the final two goals as Henderson scored off of a free position and Sweeney sapped off the first half for the Sagehens to take an 8-4 lead into the break.
Pomona-Pitzer started to pull away in the third quarter as McHugh opened the third with a free position goal, but Chapman responded with one of their own to make it 9-5. The Sagehens went on to net the next four goals as Sullivan netted her second of the day followed by Henderson who notched her hat-trick with her third shortly after and Lewis scored back-to-back goals to push the lead to 13-6 heading into the fourth.
Henderson kept the scoring going with the first two goals of the fourth followed by LeBlanc to give the Sagehens their largest lead of the night up 10 at 16-6 with 7:14 left to go. Chapman scored their final goal of the night to make it 16-7, but the Sagehens capped off the night with a goal from Schunk in the final seconds to give the Sagehens a 10-point win.
