Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team earned a walk off 3-2 victory over Sixth Street Rival CMS with an RBI single from Zoey Joshlin in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Sagehens recorded five hits overall with five different hitters recording one run with Joshlin ending the day with one hit and two RBIs. The Sagehens will be back in action tomorrow at CMS at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
How It Happened
The two rivals battled through two full scoreless innings with CMS leaving four runners on base in the first and second and the Sagehens leaving a runner on in the first. The Sagehens were able to strike first in the bottom of the third after Amanda Robman started the inning with a double down the left field line. Bella Carreon laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Robman to third base. Megan Otsuka brought Robman in with an RBI groundout to the pitcher, giving the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.
The Athenas answered back in the top of the fifth inning after hitting a double down the right field line followed by a single to left field, putting runners on first and third with two outs. CMS hit a single through the right side to tie the game at 1-1 before Emma Holt struck out an Athena to get the final out of the inning. CMS continued to attack, recording three hits in the sixth inning but the Sagehens were able to work out of the inning with no damage done. The Athenas took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh with an RBI double, setting up a perfect comeback victory opportunity on senior day for the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer quickly put runners on first and second as Hannah Brajkovich hit a single to left and Julia Carreon reached first on an error. Deijah Bradley put down the sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. Amanda Robman struck out swinging, putting the Sagehens in a two out, two runners on situation with Zoey Joshlin stepping up to bat. Joshlin capitalized on the opportunity and hit a two-RBI single to center field to earn the walk off 3-2 victory on senior day.
