WHITTIER, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens split the doubleheader against Whittier on the road, falling 5-4 in game before picking up a 10-2 five inning victory in game two to win the three-game series 2-1. Megan Otsuka was the standout for the Sagehens, ending the day with four hits, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Friday, Apr. 22 when they travel to Occidental at 3:00 p.m.

Game One – Whittier 5, Pomona-Pitzer 4

The Sagehens led for much of game one, starting the game with two runs in the first inning. Megan Otsuka walked to start the game and later stole second. Devin Waddell also walked before a Taylor Lehner single moved the duo to third base and second base. Katy Hurley then hit a two-RBI single to center field that brought in Otsuka and Waddell, giving the Sagehens an early 2-0 lead.

Whittier responded with one run in the third inning and one in the fifth, hitting an RBI single and an RBI double, tying the game at 2-2. The Sagehens quickly regained the lead in the top of the sixth thanks to a two-run home run from Devin Waddell, putting Pomona-Pitzer up 4-2. Whittier hit an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3 before hitting the game-winning two-RBI single in the seventh to edge past the Sagehens 5-4.

Devin Waddell pitched a full five innings for the Sagehens, allowing six hits and two runs in that stretch. Paige Blackwell was the reliever for Waddell, going 1.1 innings, allowing three hits and three runs.

Game Two – Pomona-Pitzer 10, Whittier 2

The Sagehens and Poets were scoreless through the first two innings with Whittier working out of a bases loaded, no out situation in the second. Katy Hurley started the second inning with a walk before Hannah Brajkovich and Julia Carreon both hit singles to load the bases. The Sagehens went down in order from there to end the inning 0-0.

Despite leaving three runners on in the second, the Sagehens continued to attack in the third, this time crossing home plate six times. Lauren Ziment and Devin Waddell both hit singles to left field to start the inning. Katy Hurley then struck an RBI double to bring in Ziment. Hannah Brajkovich cleared the bases with a three-run homer to make it 4-0. The Sagehens continued to add in runs as Deijah Bradley hit a double which was followed by Bella Carreon getting hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second. Megan Otsuka traded places with Bradley with a two-RBI double to give the Sagehens a 6-0 lead.

Whittier was able to get a run back in the bottom of the third, but the Sagehens answered with four of their own. Otsuka hit a two-RBI single which was followed by an RBI-double from Ziment. The Sagehens final run of the day came after Devin Waddell hit an RBI single and attempted to advance to second while Ziment tried to make her way home. Ziment's attempt was successful while Waddell was caught out at second.

Whittier hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth but a pop up, strike out, and foul out ended the game in five innings as the Sagehens earned the 10-2 victory over the Poets.
