Lewis Nets Four Against Tigers as Sagehens Win Eighth-Straight

Box Score

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team extended their wins treak to eight-straight games after defeating Colorado College for the second time this season. The Sagehens earned the 14-9 victory behind a four-goal game from Fiona Lewis while Grace Warner, Shoshi Henderson, and Sydney Landauer all chimed in for two goals of their own. Emily Vomvas made 10 saves in goal to keep the Sagehens undefeated. The Sagehens will be back in action on Wednesday Apr. 6 when they host Chapman at 7:00 p.m.

How It Happened

The Tigers struck first just under three minutes into the contest, but the Sagehens tallied four-straight to gain control of the game with goals coming from Sydney Landauer, Eloise Cherian, and Grace Warner

The Tigers fought back in the last five minutes of the first period, scoring three-straight to tie the game at 4-4 at the end of the first quarter. After nearly 10 full minutes of scoreless play in the second quarter, Ellie Kruse found the back of the net, taking the ball at midfield and creating space on her own to put the Sagehens up 5-4. Maggie Sweeney followed in pursuit with a goal to make it 6-4 just 48 seconds later. The Tigers capitalized on a free position shot but Grace Warner closed out the period with a goal to give the Sagehens a 7-5 lead heading into halftime.

Out of the break, the Tigers put the pressure on, scoring two goals in the opening five minutes of the third quarter, tying the game at 7-7. Fiona Lewis broke the tie with her first goal of the game, but Colorado College answered right back, tying things at 8-8. From there, the Sagehens scored three-straight with one from Caroline Worthington and two from Lewis, giving Pomona-Pitzer an 11-8 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Tigers scored first in the fourth quarter, but it was their only goal in the period as the Sagehens proved to be too much to handle for Colorado College. Fiona Lewis netted her fourth goal of the game off a free position shot before she dished out an assist to Shoshi Henderson for her first goal of the game. Henderson's goal was certainly impressive as she took one step to her left to shake her defender before coming back to her right and rifling a shot over the keeper's shoulder to make it 13-9. Henderson tallied one more goal with 1:15 left to play, putting the exclamation point on the Sagehens 14-9 victory over the Tigers.
