Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team defeated the Cal Lutheran Regals 13-3 in six innings on the road, recording 15 hits on the day while holding Cal Lu to five. Paige Blackwell and Kailey Newkirk both pitched three innings for the Sagehens. Katy Hurley and Hannah Brajkovich both recorded three hits with Brajkovic highlighting the day with a home run. The Sagehens will be back in action tomorrow at home when they host Cal Lu at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
How It Happened
After a scoreless first inning, Julia Carreon hit a two-RBI double down the right field line to bring in Taylor Lehner and Hannah Brajkovich, giving the Sagehens a 2-0 lead in the second inning. In the fourth inning, Bella Carreon hit the second RBI double from a Carreon, doubling to right center to bring in Katy Hurley and make it 3-0. Megan Otsuka made it 5-0 with a single to second base that brought in Bella Carreon and Julia Carreon.
Cal Lutheran answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly and an RBI single, cutting the Sagehens lead to 5-2. In the top of the fifth inning, Hannah Brajkovich hit a two-run homerun over the centerfield wall, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 7-2 lead. The Sagehens continued to pile it on in the sixth inning with an RBI single from Megan Otsuka, an RBI single from Lauren Ziment, a three-RBI triple from Taylor Lehner and an RBI double from Katy Hurley to cap things off, giving the Sagehens a 13-2 lead. The Regals were able to find a run in the bottom of the sixth, but they left two stranded as the Sagehens topped Cal Lutheran 13-3.
