Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team came away with a big 26-3 win over SCIAC opponent Whittier on Wednesday night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens move to 3-0 on the year and stay perfect at 3-0 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by Sydney Landauer who notched a team-high give goals and one assist in the win. Katherine Lin, Maggie Sweeney, and Caroline Worthington also earned a hat-trick with three goals each while Jessalyn Simon-Parker, Fiona Lewis, and Shoshi Henderson netted two goals and Claire LeBlanc, Asaka Mori, Carly Sullivan, Grace Warner, Ellie Kruse, and Eloise Cherian each had one.
Pomona-Pitzer didn't waste any time getting the offense going in the first as Henderson and Landauer netted goals inside the first two minutes of play to take a 2-0 lead. The Sagehens extended their opening run to 5-0 after LeBlanc, Landauer and Lewis scored before the Poets scored their first goal of the game off of a powerplay to make it 5-1. Sullivan scored her first goal of the night before Whittier added another to move the score to 6-2 with 6:30 left in the first. The Sagehens ended the first with five unanswered goals as Worthington and Sweeney each found the net twice and Lewis added another to put the Sagehens on top 11-2 heading into the second.
The Sagehen defense shut out the Poets in the second period while the offense kept on going for Pomona-Pitzer. Landauer netted back-to-back goals while Kruse and Henderson got on the board in the second to extend the lead to 15-2. The Sagehens ended the first half with two more as Landauer and Simon-Parker scored to put the Sagehens on top with a comfortable 17-2 lead at halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer scored the opening two goals of the third by Simon-Parker and Warner to extend their goal streak to 13-straight before Whittier scored their third goal in the third quarter to cut the lead down to 19-3. Worthington and Lin then added two more to end the third to put the Sagehens up 21-3.
With the game already in hand, the Sagehens added five more in the fourth quarter. Sweeney capped off her hat-trick with a goal and Lin, Mori, and Cherian ended the night for the Sagehens as they put down the Poets by 23 goals.
