Waddell's Throws One-Hitter as Sagehens Split with Bridgewater

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team defeated Bridgewater (Va.) 3-0 in game one, scoring one run in the first inning and adding additional runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Devin Waddell nearly pitched a no-hitter, going a full seven innings giving up just one hit in the top of seventh inning. The Sagehens fell to Bridgewater 10-2 in game two after falling behind 6-0 in the second inning. The Sagehens will be back in action in the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Mar. 4-6 in Columbus, Ga.

Game One – Pomona-Pitzer 3, Bridgewater 0

Devin Waddell made quick work in the circle, starting off the game with a strikeout and two groundouts. The Sagehens got on the board in the bottom of the first. Lauren Ziment hit a single to third abse, stole second and advanced to third after a Waddell single to left field. Ziment later scored after Taylor Lehner hit into a fielder's choice that brought Ziment home. 

Waddell went three up, three down in both the second and third innings, recording a strikeout in each. In the bottom of the fourth, the Sagehens struck again, this time with an RBI single from Megan Otsuka that brought Emily Hurtado across the plate to give Pomona-Pitzer the 2-0 lead. Waddell went three up, three down again in the fifth and sixth innings. The Sagehens struck once more in the bottom of the sixth with Megan Otsuka hitting another RBI single, this time bringing in Bella Carreon to make it 3-0. 

Devin Waddell started the seventh inning by forcing a pop up to get the first out of the inning. Bridgewater broke the no hitter with single to left field but Waddell came back by forcing another pop up and a fielder's choice ball that ended the game with a play a second. 

Game Two - Bridgewater 10, Pomona-Pitzer 2

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the second game with six runs in the top of the second inning. The Eagles got on board with an RBI walk followed by an error, a two-RBI doublle, an RBI groundout, and an RBI single. The Sagehens responded with one run in the bottom of the second after Hannah Brajkovich reached on an error that brough in Megan Otsuka. The Sagehens second run of the game came in the bottom of the third after an RBI single from Megan Otsuka, making it 6-2 in favor of the Eagles. Bridgewater had a big sixth inning with an RBI double, two-RBI single, and RBI double to take a 10-2 lead and eventual victory over the Sagehens in six innings.
