How It Happened
Game One – Linfield 9, Pomona-Pitzer 1
Linfield got out to a quick start, hitting three RBI singles en route to a 5-0 lead at the end of the first inning. The Wildcats were held scoreless through the next two innings but exploded again in the fourth, this time with three RBI doubles to take a 9-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, a Katy Hurley single to center field brought in one run but the Sagehens failed to score any more runs despite a bases loaded situation, ending the game 9-1 in five innings.
Game Two – Linfield 11, Pomona-Pitzer 5
In game two, it was Pomona-Pitzer putting the pressure on early as they found themselves up 2-0 in the bottom of the first. Devin Waddell reached on an error from the Linfield short stop who made a bad throw that resulted in Taylor Lehner crossing home plate. Waddell later scored after Amanda Robman singled up the middle to give the Sagehens a 2-0 lead.
The Wildcats quickly responded, hitting a two-run homer in the top of the second to tie things at 2-2. The Sagehens regained the lead in the bottom of the third after Morgan Groves hit a fielder's choice ball that resulted in Taylor Lehner making her way home to give the Sagehens the 3-2 lead.
Both teams went scoreless until the Wildcats got going again in the sixth inning. Linfield tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right before hitting two RBI singles, a two-run home run, and adding one more due to a Sagehen error, taking a 9-3 lead. The Wildcats tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning after a strong single to left field brought in two runners.
The Sagehens responded in the bottom of the seventh as Devin Waddell ripped a two-run bomb well over the centerfield wall but that would be the last two runs of the day as Pomona-Pitzer fell 11-5.
