Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team suffered a 61-55 loss to non-conference opponent Master's on Tuesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 1-3 overall.
The Sagehens were led by Brendan Mora who had a game-high 26 points in the loss. Ty Bergman added 13 points and seven rebounds as well. Pomona-Pitzer connected on just 30.9% of its shots from the floor and 21.7% from three in what was a tough shooting night that saw just 26 points in the first half and 29 points in the second. Master's outrebounded Pomona-Pitzer 41-37 and controlled the game down low with 34 points in the paint while the Sagehens only had 20 points in the paint. Master's also saw a lot of production from its bench with 25 points coming from the reserves.
Low a scoring affair to start as Pomona-Pitzer went scoreless in the first four minutes of the game until Ben Daugherty got the Sagehens on the board with a three. Master's went on a small run midway through the half and held a 17-9 lead with just over seven minutes to play until halftime. Pomona-Pitzer closed out the half strong and took the lead heading into halftime after a Mora layup put the Sagehens up one at 26-25 heading into the locker room.
The Sagehens came in the second half and took their largest lead of the night at five points after a Bergman jumper made it 30-25 in the early stages of the second half. Master's reclaimed the lead with a 13-0 run that put the Sagehens in a 38-30 hole with 12 minutes to play.
Pomona-Pitzer battled back in the second half and made it close as they trailed by just one point at 48-47 with under five minutes to go. Down the stretch, Master's sparked a 10-1 run that put the Sagehens out of a potential comeback opportunity as the Sagehens fell to 1-3 to start the 2022-23 season.
