CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball fell 76-62 to CMS Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: The result puts the Sagehens at 9-13 on the season, including 5-9 in SCIAC play.
Matthew Diekmann led the team offensively with 17 points to go with three rebounds, two steals and a pair of assists.
Kyle Jasper and
Sam Lind each added 11 points while
Charlie Hutchison had 10 points and seven boards.
Teams traded baskets to start the game, with Hutchison knocking down a midrange jumper to make it 15-14 CMS. A pair of Diekmann free throws later gave Pomona-Pitzer a 27-26 advantage. But the Stags finished the half strong, taking a 43-31 lead into the locker room.
The Sagehens hung around for much of the second half, with a Jasper layup and triple bringing them within seven, 50-43. Jasper hit another three to make it 56-49 with 11:02 remaining. Diekmann later hit a three of his own as Pomona-Pitzer trailed 63-54 with 7:23 to go.
CMS, though, led by as many as 17 down the stretch. Lind hit a three-pointer late but it wasn't enough, as the Sagehens fell 76-62.
