Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer volleyball team earned their second-straight sweep with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-16) victory over the Occidental Tigers in Voelkel Gymnasium. The Sagehens were led by Chloe Gill who ended the night with 11 kills while Eleanor Nicholson dished out 17 assists. Lauren Asato and Paige Wilson both recorded double-digit digs with Asato ending the night with 11 while Wilson ended with 10. The Sagehens will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host La Verne at 2:00 p.m.
Kellan Hayes recorded the first kill of the night, but the Tigers held the edge in the opening portion of the set to take a 10-7 lead and force a Sagehen timeout. Out of the break, the Sagehens flipped the switch with a 9-3 run to force an Occidental timeout with kills from Hayes, Paige Mountanos, and Grace Fan. Out of the Tigers timeout, the Sagehens ended the set on a 9-4 run to take the game 25-17 with kills from Chloe Gill, Laurel Park, Kellan Hayes, Paige Mountanos, and Grace Fan.
The Sagehens rolled through the opening of set two, scoring five unanswered points with a Kylie Mies service ace along with kills from Chloe Gill. The Sagehens forced Occidental to use both of their timeouts as they stormed to a 16-6 lead with an 11-6 lead. The Tigers tried to tighten the gap with a 4-2 run but a 7-3 run from the Sagehens gave them the 25-14 victory in set two.
In set three, the Sagehens started things off with a 4-1 run with kills from Ella Gardner, but the Tigers went on a 7-1 run to take an 8-5 lead. The Sagehens regained the lead with five unanswered points, forcing a Tigers timeout trailing the Sagehens 10-8. Out of the break, the Sagehens continued to attack, holding an 8-5 edge with kills from Chloe Gill, Ella Gardner, and Paige Wilson, forcing the Tigers to take another break down 18-13. Pomona-Pitzer increased their lead to 22-13 with four-straight points but the Tigers took the next two to make it 22-15. The Sagehens denied any comeback attempt with a block by Natalie Potter and Tene Ariyo before Potter and Gill both recorded kills to complete the sweep with a 25-16 victory.
