Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer soccer team drew with California Lutheran on Saturday afternoon after a double overtime battle on the road. The Sagehens outshot the Regals 15-5, putting eight on frame. Taylor Kane served 65 minutes in goal, recording three saves while Naomi Meurice took the other 45 minutes, recording one save. With the tie, the Sagehens are now 7-0-2 on the season and will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 6 when they take on CMS at 7:00 p.m.
How It Happened
The first half of the contest was controlled by the Sagehens, possessing the ball for much of the half. Pomona-Pitzer saw shots from Hannah Mandell, Emily Tomz, Eliana Prosnitz, Amanda Khu, and Melanie Ng. The five shots would give the Sagehens a 5-1 advantage in shots in the first half, but none would find the net.
Pomona-Pitzer picked up right where they left off after the break with Charlotte Tapp taking a shot just 1:33 into the second half. California Lutheran began to build their attack in the second half, pressuring the Sagehens with three quick shots to keep Taylor Kane busy in between the pipes.
In the 73rd minute, the Sagehens saw their best series of opportunities after Spencer Duetz put a shot down the middle that was saved. The Sagehens saw three shots from Emily Tomz and Anna Ponzio over the next three minutes but again, each shot was saved.
In the first overtime period, the Sagehens were the only team to record a shot with Tomz putting one on frame in the 95th minute. Pomona-Pitzer would add two more shots to the scoresheet with attempts from Mandell and Tapp but after 110 minutes of play, the scored remained 0-0, resulting in the Sagehens second draw of the season.
