Sagehens Win Double Header, Take Series 3-1 Over Rochester

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team took both games of their Sunday double header against Rochester with a 7-4 win in game one and a 15-5 win in game two on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. With the wins, the Sagehens take three of their four games against Rochester and move to 9-5 on the year.

Pomona-Pitzer 7, Rochester 4

The Sagehens had five hits in the game by five different players. Seth Stone led the way with a 1-2 performance with two runs scored and one RBI with his solo home run in the third inning.

Pomona-Pitzer made its mark on the game in the bottom of the second inning where they plated six runs.  Some good eyes by the Sagehens allowed them to get the bases loaded via a walk and then scored three runs off of four-straight walks to take a 3-0 lead. Kevin Lo followed up with an RBI single as well as Jeremy Jess to put the Sagehens up 6-0.

Pomona-Pitzer added one more in the third inning as Stone connected for a solo home run to push the lead to 7-0.

Rochester began to chip away at the lead with two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth to cut the lead down to 7-3.  The Yellow Jackets added one more in the top of the seventh but Luka Green came on for the Sagehens to close the game out and earned the save in game one of the double header.

The Sagehens were led by Jake Patterson-Kohout who went 3-3 with one run scored, one RBI and one walk.  Michael Hill, Nolan McCafferty, Jeremiah Quezada, and Harry Deliyannis all notched multi-hit games while Stone led the RBI charge with three.

Rochester jumped out in front of game two with a run in the top of the second.  The Sagehens answered in their next at-bats and broke the game wide open with a 10-run inning.  Pomona-Pitzer tallied eight hits in the inning and RBI's from Quezada, Deliyannis, Jack Damelio, McCafferty, Stone and Patterson-Kohout put the Sagehens on top 10-1 heading into the third inning.

Neither team put up any runs until the seventh inning as the Yellow Jackets plated their second run of the game off of an RBI single, but the Sagehens came back in the bottom half of the inning with four more after Jack Colton earned his first collegiate hit with an RBI single up the middle and an RBI by Hill and two defensive errors pushed the Sagehens' lead to 14-2. 

The Yellow Jackets began to hit the ball late in the game as they plated three more runs in the top of the eighth but the Sagehens finished off the game with an RBI by Hill to cap off a 3-1 series win in the final game over Rochester.

The Sagehens will next host a non-conference game against CMS on Monday, March 9th at 3:00 p.m.
