Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer baseball defeated Whittier 13-3 Friday afternoon in game one of the two teams' three-game weekend series.
Season Impact: The win puts the Sagehens at 15-7 on the season, including 6-3 in SCIAC play.
James Quintero led the team with three RBI while
Kai Gonzaga posted two RBI on a team-high three hits.
Greg Pierantoni,
Jack Gold and
Cooper Berry also notched two RBI apiece.
Max Brunngraber (5-0) earned the win from the mound after going 6.0 innings with two strikeouts and just three earned runs.
Pomona-Pitzer put up the game's first 10 runs, including four in the first inning and six in the second. Berry notched a two-run single before Quintero posted a two-run base hit of his own in the opening frame to make it 4-0 Sagehens.
Pierantoni blasted a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second and
Shawn Loui secured an RBI single to give Pomona-Pitzer a 7-0 advantage. Quintero drew a bases loaded walk before Gonzaga tallied a two-run single as the Sagehens led 10-0 through the first inning and a half.
The Poets got a pair of runs back with solo shots in the second and third innings. But the Sagehens upped their lead to 11, 13-2, with a Savas RBI double and
Jack Gold two-run single in the fourth. Whittier scored one more in the fourth but it wasn't enough, as Pomona-Pitzer came away with the seven-inning 13-3 run-rule victory.
