CLAREMONT, Calif. — Pomona-Pitzer baseball secured a series sweep over Whittier with a pair of wins Saturday against the Poets at home.
Season Impact: The wins put the Sagehens at 17-7 on the season, including 9-3 in SCIAC play.
Sagehens 6, Whittier 3
Peter Savas led the team offensively with two RBI while
James Quintero went 2-of-3 from the plate with an RBI.
Will Polishuk (5-0) earned the win from the mound, going 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts and allowing just one earned run.
Wade Lawson closed the game with four strikeouts over 3.0 innings.
Whittier got on the board first with a solo shot in the second. Quintero answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame.
Will Parker then homered in the fourth to put Pomona-Pitzer up 2-1.
Savas gave the Sagehens some insurance in the sixth, posting a two-RBI single to center. Gonzaga then doubled to right to drive Savas home and put Pomona-Pitzer up 5-1. Whittier scored a run in both the seventh and ninth innings. But
Cooper Berry blasted a solo homer to right center in the seventh as Pomona-Pitzer came away with the 6-3 win.

Gonzaga posted five RBI in the final game of the series while
Jack Gold, who blasted two homers, and Parker each added three.
Eli Della Bitta earned the win from the mound, going 2.2 innings with four strikeouts and allowing just one hit and no runs.
Whittier jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the second inning before Gonzaga drove in Parker on a fielder's choice. The Poets added two more runs to go up 7-1 in the top of the third.
But it was all Sagehens from that point on. Pomona-Pitzer scored three in the third thanks to a Parker RBI and a Quintero two-run double. The Sagehens then poured in seven runs in the fourth to take an 11-7 advantage. Parker, Loui and Gonzaga secured RBI in the frame, with Gonzaga blasting a three-run shot to right field.
Savas and Gold traded homers in the sixth and seventh innings. Gonzaga notched another RBI in the eighth before Gold belted his second homerun of the game. The Sagehens eventually came away with the 16-7 victory and series sweep.
Up Next: Pomona-Pitzer will travel to take on Lewis & Clark in a three-game non-conference series next weekend. First pitch for game one is slated for 3:00 p.m. PT on Friday, Apr. 3.
