Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. –The Pomona-Pitzer softball team utilized 19 hits through six innings to mercy rule Cal Lutheran in six innings, advancing to 3-3 on the season and 1-0 in the conference. Taylor Lehner led the Sagehens at the plate with four hits, four RBI's, and three runs scored. Karina Falkstrom followed closely behind with three hits and three RBI's while Katy Hurley had three hits and one RBI.
The Sagehens are back in action tomorrow against Cal Lutheran in a double header at noon and 2:00 p.m.
How It Happened
Cal Lutheran struck first in the bottom of the first inning but the Sagehens responded promptly in the second after Makensey Druckman doubled to left center, bringing in Hannah Brajkovich, tying the game at 1-1. Pomona-Pitzer ended the inning with a 2-1 lead after Taylor Lehner hit an RBI single to bring in Druckman.
The Sagehens increased their lead to 3-1 in the third inning but the Regals battled back in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-3 lead after two RBI's and a Sagehen error. Pomona-Pitzer's Izzy Deatherage single to right center to bring in Taylor Lehner to tie the game at four a piece in the fourth inning. Karina Falkstrom followed in pursuit with a single through the right side to make it 5-4 in favor of the Sagehens.
Cal Lutheran battled back once more in the bottom of the fourth to lock the game at 5-5 after a double to right center.
The fifth inning was the turning point for the Sagehens as they ballooned their lead to 11-5 by the end of their half. Taylor Lehner started the scoring after hitting a double to right center, bringing in Paige Blackwell and Hannah Brajkovich to make it 7-5. Zoey Joshlin singled down the left field lied to bring Lehner in, putting Pomona-Pitzer up 8-5. The Sagehens continued their offense onslaught with a two-RBI double from Karina Falkstrom and a bases loaded walk by Makensey Druckman to end the inning with an 11-5 lead.
The Sagehens picked up right where they left off in the sixth inning as Izzy Deatherage ripped an RBI double into right center to make it 12-5. Deatherage then reached the plate after a double down the right field line from Kate Hurley, giving the Sagehens a 13-5 lead. Olivia Campion came through next with an RBI double before Hannah Brajkovich followed in pursuit with a two-RBI double to right, extending the Sagehens' lead to 16-5. Makensey Druckman singled to left center to bring in Brajkovich and Taylor Lehner reached first on an error, bringing in another run to make it 18-5.
The Regals managed to record one run in the bottom of the sixth on a fielder's choice but it was too late as the game ended 18-6 in favor of the Sagehens in the sixth inning.
