SCIAC Men's Basketball Tournament Set to Begin Friday

The 2020 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's Basketball Postseason Tournament is slated to begin Friday, February 28 with semifinal action. The SCIAC Tournament championship contest will then take place on Saturday, February 29.

Top-seeded Pomona-Pitzer will host No. 4 Occidental, while No. 2 Redlands will host No. 3 CMS on Friday, February 28. Both games will be played at 7 p.m. The final will be Saturday, February 29 and hosted by the highest remaining seed. 

For the second time in as many seasons, Pomona-Pitzer earned the top seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament after posting a 19-5 overall regular season record that was keyed by a 13-3 mark in league play. The Sagehens, winners of the 2019 postseason tournament, enter the 2020 playoffs having won four straight seven of their last eight games, and will look to secure a third tournament crown since earning the inaugural title in 2008. In addition to the two tournament championships, Pomona-Pitzer has also finished as runners-up four times (2009, 2010, 2012, 2018). The upcoming tournament marks the 10th appearance in conference postseason action for the Sagehens. 

Making its second straight appearance and fifth overall, Redlands takes to the court as the second seed in the 2020 SCIAC playoffs after logging a 19-6 overall record that was highlighted by a 12-4 tally in conference play. The Bulldogs have won a pair of tournament titles (2011, 2013), and finished as runners-up in 2016. Redlands hits the hardwood riding an impressive nine-game winning streak. 

With 2020 marking its third appearance in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) owns six conference tournament crowns (2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018) and has finished as the runners-up in three tournaments (2008, 2011, 2013). The Stags boast a 19-6 overall ledger following the 2019-20 regular season and an 11-5 mark in conference action. CMS is 4-3 in the month of February and has won 11 of 15 since January 4. 

Also making its fifth overall appearance and third straight trip to the SCIAC tournament, Occidental heads into action as the fourth seed in the 2020 edition of the leauge playoffs. After finishing as the runners-up in the Tigers' lone trip to the SCIAC tournament final, Occidental takes the court standing at 16-7 overall (10-6 SCIAC). The Tigers are looking to snap a two-game losing slide but are winners in six of their last 10 contests.
