Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team continued their winning streak with a 24-6 victory over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier on Saturday afternoon at the South Athletics Complex.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 3-0 to start the year and remain perfect at 3-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens scored a season-high 24 goals against the Poets with 22 different goal scorers. Leading the way for the Sagehens was Zoe Puccia and Caroline Worthington who each had two goals in the win. Emily Vomvas moved to 3-0 on the year in the cage for the Sagehens as she registered two saves in the win.
Pomona-Pitzer dominated from start to finish in their game against the Poets. The Sagehens opened up with goals from Kate Immergluck, Carly Sullivan and Sarah Casey to jump out to a 3-0 lead before the Poets scored their first goal of the game to cut the lead down to 3-1 with 23 minutes to play in the first half. The Sagehens then scored six-straight goals to open up the lead to 9-1 with goals from Jessalyn Simon-Parker, Grace Warner, Thyra Herrmann, Reid Cohen, Worthington and Puccia.
The Poets broke the Sagehens' goal streak with their second goal of the half to move the score to 9-2, but the Sagehens responded again with a big run from Georgia Scott, Steffi Larson, Lily Keville, Kiera Havill, Puccia and Worthington to extend the lead to 15-2. The Poets were able to score the last goal of the first half, but the Sagehens went into halftime with a 15-3 lead.
The Poets came out in the second half and scored the first goal of the half to cut the lead to 15-4 but the Sagehens picked up right where they left off in the second half with five-straight goals from Eloise Cherian, Lily Herrmann, Maggie Sweeney, Sammy Little and Emma Sheridan to extend the lead to 20-4.
Whittier went on to score two of the next three goals as Riley Knowles found the back of the net for the Sagehens and then Pomona-Pitzer ended the game with goals from Leah Haverkamp, Claire LeBlanc and Eleanor Mackey to close out an impressive offensive performance by the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer will next host SCIAC rival CMS on Wednesday, February 26th at 7:00 p.m.
