Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team defeated non-conference opponent Lake Forest 84-67 on Sunday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens have won seven straight and improve to 7-2 overall.
The Sagehens had all five starters reach double-digit scoring. Leading the way was senior Micah Elan who tallied 20 points with five rebounds and four assists in the win. Senior James Kelbert scored 14 points and pulled in nine rebounds, senior Jack Boyle and senior Adam Reese each notched 11 points and junior Alex Preston had 10 points and seven rebounds.
A slow start for both teams to open up the first half with no scoring inside the first three minutes of the game. Lake Forest finally got the first basket of the game as the Sagehens and Foresters alternated leads throughout the early stages of the first half.
Both teams kept it close in throughout the first 20 minutes of the game. The Sagehens' largest lead of the first half was just six points while Lake Forest's largest lead stood at just four. Both teams traded buckets to end the first half and went into the locker room tied at 39-39.
The Foresters came out of halftime and immediately took their largest lead of the day at five points at 45-40 but the Sagehens stayed within striking distance and reclaimed the lead after a Boyle three at 52-51 with 14:34 left to play. The Sagehens broke the game open as they sprung a 12-0 run capped off by an Elan jump shot to take a 64-51 lead with just under 10 minutes left to play.
The Sagehens had the game in hand from that point on. The big run from the Sagehens along with a big second half from Kelbert who scored 12 points in the second half alone going 5-5 from the field and 2-2 from three allowed the Sagehens to earn a big win over non-conference opponent Webster.
