LAX: Sagehens Advance To SCIAC Championship After 17-15 Win Against Occidental

Box Score

LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team defeated Occidental in the Semifinals of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament 17-15 on Saturday afternoon at Jack Kemp Stadium.

The Sagehens came into the tournament with the No. 3 seed and upset the No. 2 seeded Tigers after Occidental defeated the Sagehens both times during the regular season.

The Sagehens were led by Lilly Thomey who netted a team-high four goals in the win. Kate Immergluck and Sal Marx each contributed with hat-tricks as they tallied three goals each.

Annie Price had another incredible performance in goal for the Sagehens as she notched her second game with at least 20 saves this season.

Occidental came out and scored the first goal of the day but the Sagehens owned the match early on as they responded with back-to-back goals from Marx and Immergluck to take their first lead at 2-1. The Tigers tied the game at 2-2 but then the Sagehens began to build their lead with three-straight goals from Isabel Schmidt, Thomey and Sarah Woo to take a 5-2 lead.

Occidental stayed with the Sagehens late in the first half but Pomona-Pitzer was able to keep their three-goal lead as they headed into the half up 9-6.

Sophia Silane opened up the second half with back-to-back goals and Immergluck made it three-straight for the Sagehens as they took their largest lead of the game at 12-6 with 25 minutes left in the second half.

The Sagehens kept their six-goal lead for the majority of the second half but the Tigers made it interesting as they began a stretch of five-straight goals to cut the lead down to just one goal at 16-15 with four minutes still to play.

Pomona-Pitzer iced the game as they took advantage of a powerplay that allowed Schmidt to net a free position goal to put the Sagehens up 17-15 with 1:52 left to go.

The Tigers could not come back late as the Sagehens marched into Los Angeles and came away with the postseason road victory.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next face off against CMS for the SCIAC Championship on Saturday, May 5th at CMS.
