Chapman def. Pomona-Pitzer 7-5

The Sagehens came out on the short end of Saturday's slugfest against the Panthers, falling on a late-inning rally 7-5. Olivia Campion went 3-for-4 with two runs while Izzy Deatherage went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run.

The Panthers struck first thanks to a Michaela Foisy inside-the-park home run and an RBI single by Elizabeth Runge.

In the bottom of the first inning, Liz Rodarte loaded the bases with a single and Deatherage followed with an opposite field home run to give the Hens a 3-2 lead.

Runge later tied the game for Chapman in the top of the third, but the Hens responded in the same inning as Mackensey Druckman laced an RBI single to center field to put the Hens ahead. Ireland drove in Druckman in the following at-bat with a single to make it 5-3.

The Panthers responded by tacking on a run in the fifth and sixth inning to tie the game.

Later in the seventh inning, Chapman rallied for two runs and held on to win the first contest.

The Hens tried to chip away, with runners on first and third and an out in the bottom of the fifth, Olivia Campion drove one run off a fielder's choice to cut the lead 6-1.

Later in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs and runners on second and third base, Sarah Whalen of Chapman threw a wild pitch to bring in a run.
