Men's Track and Field: Sagehens Sweep Steeplechase on Day 1 of SCIAC Championships

CLAREMONT, CA — The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track and Field team started the 2017 SCIAC Championships with a bang, sweeping the 3000 meter steeplechase on day one of the meet.

Danny Rosen led the way for the Sagehens winning the title in the steeplechase. The freshman ran away with the competition, winning with a time of 9:13.58. His time ranks as the eighth fastest time in program history. It also ranks as one of the top-10 times in the nation this year.

Taking second was senior Parker Head, who finished with a time of 9:34.75. Following right behind him and completing the Sagehen sweep was Julian DeGroot-Lutzner. The sophomore got on the podium with a time of 9:37.18.

Niko Tutland also did well in the event, finishing fifth at 9:43.49. Carter Stripp took seventh at 10:01.51.

Reggie Reed did well in the discus. The senior finished fourth with a throw of 132-11. Reed will compete in the shot put and javelin tomorrow. 

In the 10,000 meter, J.D. Kieffer finished sixth with a time of 32:43.87. Freshman Nathan Stringham took eighth at 32:51.60. 

Alex Findlay finished ninth in the long jump with a distance of 20-10.75. 

All field events were finals, along with a handful of distance races, with the rest of the events being qualifying heats for the final session on Saturday. 

Saturday field events begin at 2 p.m. and the events on the track start at 3:30 p.m.

Scoring: The meet will be scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for all events. Eight athletes will advance to the finals in all track events except the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays. Nine athletes will advance to the finals in all field events.

SCIAC Championship Race: Multi-dual victories count 25 percent and conference championship place counts 75 percent toward the SCIAC Champion title.
