LAX: Sagehens Earn First SCIAC Win Of The Year At Whittier; 15-8

 WHITTIER, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier 15-8 on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 2-3 overall and earn their first SCIAC win of the season to go to 1-3 in conference play. The Poets drop to 1-3 overall and are winless in conference play with a 0-3 record.

The Sagehens were led by sophomore Lilly Thomey who scored a game-high five goals in the win. Senior Rebecca Long and freshman Christian Rowe also tallied hat tricks as Long went for four goals and Rowe tallied a career-high with three.

The Poets were led by the duo of Lexie Meanor and Neely O'Grady who shared a team-high three goals in the loss.

Junior Mckenzie Scott got the win for the Sagehens as she tallied nine saves on 17 shot attempts in the win.

Whittier came out hot on offense to open up the game as they scored the first four goals of the game to take an early 4-0 lead with just over 23 minutes remaining in the half.

After surrendering the early lead, the Sagehens regrouped and put up six unanswered goals to end the half as Thomey, Sonia Olson, Rebecca Long, and Rowe all found the back of the net as Pomona-Pitzer came back to take a 6-4 lead heading into halftime.

The Sagehens owned the second half against the Poets as they outscored Whittier 9-4 in the half. The Sagehens jumped on top as they came out and scored four of the first five goals. Freshman Meridian Lee got the Sagehens going as she scored on a free position shot then two goals from Long and one from Thomey extended the Sagehens' lead to 10-5 with 21:05 remaining.

Whittier responded with back to back goals but the Sagehens came back and answered with five-straight goals coming from Rowe, Long, Sallie Marx and capped off with back to back goals from Thomey to give the Sagehens a commanding 15-7 lead and secured their first SCIAC win of the year.
