Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 16-6 in the first Sixth Street Rivalry of the season on Saturday night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 1-2 overall and start SCIAC play 0-2 while CMS improves to 2-0 overall and also 2-0 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Lilly Thomey who tallied a career-high five goals for the Sagehens tonight in the loss. Freshman Christian Rowe notched her first collegiate goal of her career as she scored one goal as well.
CMS was led by Evan Murphy who had a team-high three goals and two assists in the win for the Athenas.
CMS jumped out to a big lead early on in the first half as they scored the first eight goals of the game to quickly jump out to an 8-0 lead with 9:27 left to go in the first half.
The Sagehens got on the board after Rowe connected off of a free position shot to cut the lead down to 8-1 with 6:12 remaining.
The Athenas closed out the half with three-straight goals as they went into halftime with an 11-1 lead over the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer scored first coming out of halftime as Thomey struck for her first goal of the night just three minutes into the second half to cut the lead down to 11-2.
The Athenas responded with two goals in a row from Emily Cohen and Sally Carlson but Thomey came back with two more of her own as the lead was trimmed to 13-4.
The Athenas and Sagehens alternated goals to close out the game as Thomey notched her fourth and fifth goals of the night but the Sagehens came up short at home against SCIAC rival CMS.
