Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team defeated non-conference opponent Augustana 16-3 in their home opener on Thursday night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: The Sagehens improve to 1-1 overall and remain at 0-1 in conference play while Augustana drops to 0-3 to start their season.
The Sagehens were led by senior Rebecca Long who had a career-high six goals in the win for her second-straight hat trick of the season. Also with a hat trick was freshman Sophie Hubbell and sophomore Lilly Thomey who each had three goals. Freshman Annie Price got the start in goal for the Sagehens as she tallied her first collegiate win of her career as she notched four saves on five shot attempts.
The Vikings were led by Abbie Hoeg, Emily Lucnik and Christina McCabe who each had one goal in the loss.
The Sagehens started out to a hot start as they scored the first three goals of the game as Thomey, Long and junior Sallie Marx scored to give the Sagehens a 3-0 lead with 14:47 left in the first half.
After the Vikings cut the lead down to 3-1, Long notched back to back goals and Hubbell scored her first goal of the game with just one second left on the clock as the Sagehens took a 6-1 lead at the half.
Hubbell came out in the second half and scored two goals on a row as Long, Thomey and freshman Sonia Olson helped the Sagehens tally seven-straight goals to open up the half to extend the lead to 13-1 over the Vikings.
Augustana scored two goals in a row to cut the lead down to 13-3 but the Sagehens responded with goals by freshman Meridian Lee, Thomey and Marx to end the game and give the Sagehens their first win of the season in their home opener.
