LAX: Sagehens Fall To Chapman In Season Opener

ORANGE, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team fell in their season opener to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Chapman 15-5 on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Sagehens were led by senior Rebecca Long who tallied a hat trick with three goals on five shots. Freshman Sophie Hubbell and sophomore Lilly Thomey each had one goal in the loss as well.

The Panthers were led by Kelsey Mackin who had a game-high seven goals in the win. Also tallying a hat trick was Danielle Zahn with three goals.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead to start the game as they scored the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead.

The Sagehens responded with two-straight goals from Thomey and Hubbell to cut the lead to just 3-2 with 11:33 remaining but Chapman responded with six goals to end the half as they took a 9-2 lead at halftime.

The Panthers came out in the second half and scored two quick goals but the Sagehens came back as Long scored three of the next four goals to cut the lead down to 12-5.

Chapman came back to end the game with three unanswered goals as they held on to hand the Sagehens their first SCIAC loss of the season.
