Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 12-6 to sweep the season series on Saturday afternoon at Zinda Field.
Pomona-Pitzer was led by senior Aubrey Douglass who scored four goals for her fifth hat-trick of the season. Senior Sarah Markowitz netted three goals for her seventh hat-trick of the year.
The Sagehens and Athenas both came into today's meeting with a 9-2 overall record and 4-1 in conference play. Pomona-Pitzer defeated CMS in their home opener by the score of 8-5.
CMS had their offense going early as they netted three of the first four goals of the game. Douglass scored the first goal of the game for the Sagehens with an unassisted goal 10 minutes into the first half.
After the Athenas held a 4-1 lead, the Sagehens scored three-straight goals from junior Rebecca Long and two from Markowitz as Pomona-Pitzer took a 4-3 lead with 8:14 to go.
The Athenas tied the game at 4-4 until freshman Lilly Thomey scored a goal with just 1:34 remaining off of a pass from Markowitz as Pomona-Pitzer held a 5-4 lead at the half.
The Sagehens came out firing in the second half and scored three-straight goals to open the half as Douglass scored back-to-back goals and sophomore Sallie Marx netted her first goal of the game to take an 8-4 lead.
CMS went on to score two goals in a row but that was the only offense the Athenas could generate in the second half as Pomona-Pitzer closed out the game with four unanswered goals by Thomey, Douglass, Markowitz and senior Katie Savino as the Sagehens swept the season series from the Athenas.
The Sagehens next take the field as they host SCIAC opponent Occidental on Wednesday, April 13th at 7:00 p.m. at the South Athletics Complex.
