Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer lacrosse team clinched the No. 1 seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament with a 15-6 win over Whittier on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
The Sagehens were led by senior Sarah Markowitz who scored a hat-trick with four goals against the Poets for her ninth hat-trick on the year.
Pomona-Pitzer opened up the game with eight-straight goals to take a commanding 8-0 lead over Whittier with 10:07 left in the first half. Markowitz notched a hat-trick just seven minutes into the game as she scored three of the first four goals for the Sagehens. Senior Aubrey Douglass, junior Rebecca Long, freshman Amelia Miller and sophomore Sallie Marx all scored one goal in the scoring streak for the Sagehens.
Whittier ended the half with three of the last four goals scored in the half but Long scored her second goal of the game off of an assist from freshman Nicole Larson as the Sagehens held a 9-3 lead at the half.
Whittier came out and scored the first goal of the half as Lauren Tudor found the back of the net for the Poets. The Sagehens responded with three goals in a row from Marx, Markowitz and freshman Lilly Thomey to take a 12-4 lead with 17:59 left in the second half.
The Poets broke the scoring streak with a goal by Aneglina Cuevas but senior Nicola Ying Fry and Larson scored on free position shots to extend the lead to 14-5.
The Poets and Sagehens each added one more goal to end the game as senior Katie Savino tacked on an unassisted goal to end the scoring for Pomona-Pitzer as they end the regular season with a 13-3 overall record and went 8-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens will next host the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Wednesday, April 27th.
