Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team split with Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Chapman with a 6-4 win in game one and a 5-3 loss in game two on Friday afternoon at Wig Beach Field.
Pomona-Pitzer was led by junior Bianca Cockrell in game one who went 3-3 with two doubles and two RBI's
The Sagehens got on top in the bottom of the first as Cockrell blasted a two-run homer to give Pomona-Pitzer a 2-0 lead.
The Panthers responded in the top of the second with an RBI double to left field to cut the lead down to 2-1.
Chapman came back to take the lead in the bottom of the third after an RBI double off of the left field wall by Amber Perez tied the game at 2-2 and Analisa Ruff hit an RBI single to right field to take a 3-2 lead over the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer reclaimed the lead in bottom of the fourth as sophomore Natalie Ireland hit an RBI single through the left side of the infield to bring home sophomore Emily Rockhill and senior Paige Oliver followed that up with an RBI single of her own to bring home pinch runner sophomore Michelle Fowler to take a 4-3 lead over the Panthers.
The Panthers responded as Lisa Perez hit a solo home run to left center to tie the game back up at 4-4.
The Sagehens added two more in the bottom of the fifth as Rockhill drove in pinch runner sophomore Missy Pekarek and Kelsey Buchanan to take a 6-4 lead over Chapman.
Freshman Liz Rodarte pitched a complete game to pick up her fourth win of the year and tallied eight strikeouts in the win for Pomona-Pitzer.
The Sagehens played front in front in game two as well as Buchanan started out the scoring with a two-run homer to right field, her first of the season, to give Pomona-Pitzer a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
Chapman got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Perez, an RBI single by Lindsay Rawls and Liz Runge brought home two more on a single through the right side of the infield as the Panthers took a 4-2 lead over Pomona-Pitzer.
Pomona-Pitzer got one run in the bottom of the fifth as Ireland hit an RBI double to right center to bring home Rockhill to cut the lead down to 4-3.
The Panthers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as they tacked on one more off of a throwing error by the Sagehens' defense as they took a 5-3 lead. Chapman held off the Sagehen offense as they took game two of the double header.
The Sagehens next take the field as they host SCIAC opponent Whittier on Saturday, April 2nd at 12:00 p.m.
