LAX: Sagehens Bounce Back With 15-5 Win Over Whittier

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's lacrosse team bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 15-5 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Whittier on Tuesday night at the South Athletic Complex.

The Sagehens were led by senior Sarah Markowitz who tallied five goals on the day for her second-straight hat-trick. Senior Ally McLaughlin also tallied a hat-trick as she ended the day with four goals.

Whittier started out the game on top as they scored three of the first four goals of the game to jump out to a 3-1 lead over the Sagehens.  Markowitz scored the first two goals of the game for the Sagehens as the trailed 3-2 with 21:47 left in the first half.

Junior Rebecca Long found the back of the net for her first goal of the game as the Sagehens tied the game at 3-3 with just under 20 minutes to go in the first half.

Whittier reclaimed the lead at the 15:49 mark with a goal by Angelina Cuevas but Pomona-Pitzer responded with two-straight goals from Long and freshman Lilly Thomey to take their first lead of the day at 5-4.

The Poets answered with the final goal of the half by Lexie Meanor as the team went into the locker room with a 5-5 tie at halftime.

The scoring ended for Whittier at the half as Pomona-Pitzer went on to shut out the Poets in the second half and score 10 unanswered goals to end the game.

The Sagehens started their rally with Markowitz getting her third goal of the game off of an assist from senior Katie Savino and senior Aubrey Douglass found the net for her first goal of the game to give the Sagehens a 7-5 lead to open up the half.

McLaughlin then scored her first goal of the game off of a pass from sophomore Sallie Marx and Savino threw in an unassisted goal to extend the lead to 9-5.

Markowitz and McLaughlin went on to score the next four goals of the game as they tallied two each to give the Sagehens a 13-5 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer ended the game as Marx found the back of the net for her first goal of the game and McLaughlin ended the day with an unassisted goal as the Sagehens' offense had a big second half to seal their fourth SCIAC win of the season.

The Sagehens next take the field as they host Colorado College on Sunday, April 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the South  Athletics Complex.
